Constellations Work

This approach or way bridges the head and heart to help transform the relationship we share with self, others and life.

Constellations engage layers of awareness, including somatic and visual, tap into energy fields and can generate shifts in feeling, understanding and perspective.

Sessions may draw on two interrelated ways of working: Structural or internal (individual) and Systemic / Family or intergenerational and relational (ancestral collective).

Structural Constellations can help you move through challenging inner terrain, gain greater self understanding and anchor into embodied wholeness.

These individual processes offer dynamic ways to explore your relationship with internal parts and themes such as feelings, inner child (child parts), core self (embodied adult), higher self (soul or essence), goals and obstacles and more.

What you explore may also include or morph into relational themes to give you entirely new insights.

Systemic / Family Constellations can help you navigate entangled individual and relational terrain, uncover new insights and release unwanted burdens.

These individual and group processes help to uncover and shift ancestral generational patterns or unprocessed experiences in your family system or field - energetic and perhaps even epigenetic - that lie behind an issue or topic.

This can initiate a healing inner movement for you which also ripples out to your family field and the other systems or groups to which you belong.

During sessions, you may be facilitated through an experiential exercise or full process using representation or externalised elements for you, other people and/or other key aspects of a topic or issue.

Individual or one-on-one work can involve representing or feeling into and expressing what you intuitively sense about each element, including impulses for movement.

In group work, you choose other people to represent your elements so they can hold and explore a challenging or stuck topic for you.

Constellations Topic Guide

Depending on the type of session, the elements of your Constellation - the inner image of an issue or topic - can be dynamically explored utilizing:

  • post it-notes, felts, dolls or other objects on a tabletop

  • larger papers, felts or other objects on a floor space

  • in 'mind's eye' work

  • anchors or shapes on a computer screen (online 'app')

  • other people in a physical or online workshop space

Constellations work was founded by Bert Hellinger, a German therapist, author, wisdom teacher and mystic.  His work initially centred around Family Constellations and later also developed into what he called 'Movements of the Soul' and 'Movements of the Spirit-Mind'.  Hellinger's perennial wisdom continues to guide facilitators in the Constellations community, as the work evolves worldwide.
